Men's Bracelet Size Guide: How to Measure Wrist and Pick the Fit

You open the parcel, you are excited, you slip the bracelet on... and it either spins around your wrist like a hula hoop or pinches like a tight watch strap. We have all been there.

The quick answer: measure your wrist with a strip of paper, add about 1.5 to 2 cm for a chain bracelet (a little more for a thicker one), and match that to the length listed on the product page. For a kada, measure your hand instead of your wrist. Details below.

Why fit matters more than you think

A bracelet that is too loose slides over the hand, knocks against tables and desks, and catches on sleeves. One that is too tight sits stiff, rubs the skin and gets uncomfortable by evening, especially in summer when you sweat. The right fit is the one you forget you are wearing.

Many of the questions we get on chat are really fit questions: what is the length, what is the width, how heavy is it, will it suit a thin wrist? So let us sort it out once, properly.

How to measure your wrist (2 minutes)

  1. Take a strip of paper or a thin string. A tailor's tape is easiest, but a phone charger cable and a ruler work too.
  2. Wrap it around the wrist bone where you normally wear a watch or bracelet. Keep it snug but not tight.
  3. Mark where it meets, then lay it flat on a ruler. Note the number in centimetres.
  4. Add ease. For a chain or link bracelet add roughly 1.5 to 2 cm. Prefer it loose, like a watch you can move? Go closer to 2.5 cm.
  5. Compare with the product page. Look for the length of the bracelet in the description or size options and pick the closest one that is not shorter than your number.

Measure in the evening if you can. Wrists are very slightly bigger by the end of the day, and that is the size you want to be comfortable at.

Kada is different: measure your hand, not your wrist

A kada usually has no clasp. You pass it over your hand and it sits on the wrist. So the size that matters is the widest part of your hand, around the knuckles, when your thumb is tucked in against the palm.

Fold your thumb in, close the fingers together like you are making a cone, and wrap the paper around the widest point. If the kada cannot pass that circumference, it will not go on. Kada sizes are usually given as an inner diameter, often somewhere between 2.4 and 2.8 inches for men, so always check the exact size mentioned on the product you like.

Open-end kadas have a little give, which helps if you are between two sizes. Closed, solid kadas do not, so be more careful there. If you like the Punjabi style, have a look at our Gold Plated Punjabi Kada for Men and our wider Gold Plated Kada for Men range.

The four details to check on any bracelet page

Length. This is the number you matched above. If the page shows only one length, compare it with your wrist plus ease before ordering.

Width. Width is usually in millimetres. A thin wrist looks balanced with a slimmer bracelet, while a broad wrist and bigger frame can carry a chunkier one. Neither is wrong, it is only about proportion.

Weight. Heavier bracelets feel substantial but can slide around. Lighter ones feel easy for all-day wear. Think about how you will wear it: desk job, gym, or functions.

Closure. A lobster or hook clasp lets you adjust a little. A kada is fixed or slightly open. Choose what you are comfortable putting on by yourself.

Wrist type, quick picks

Thin wrist: go for slimmer chains and lighter links, and keep the length snug so it does not slide. Medium wrist: you can wear almost anything, so choose by outfit and mood. Broad wrist: a wider link or a thicker kada looks in proportion, and a very thin chain can look lost.

Wearing it with a watch

The classic Indian dilemma: watch on one hand, bracelet on the other, or both together? If you wear both on the same wrist, keep the bracelet snug enough that it does not clink against the watch glass. Most people find it easier to put the watch on the left and the bracelet on the right, and it also keeps the daily routine simple.

The golden rule

If you can slide one finger under it, it is the right fit. If two fingers fit easily, size down. If one finger will not go in, size up.

A word on care, so the fit stays comfortable

Take your bracelet off before a bath, swimming or the gym, and keep it away from perfume and sprays. Gold plated jewellery is not waterproof, and sweat and chemicals are the usual reasons it loses its look. Put it on last when you get ready and take it off first when you get home. We have written more in our daily care guide.

Frequently asked questions

What bracelet size should I order if my wrist is 17 cm?

Add about 1.5 to 2 cm for a chain bracelet, so look for a length near 18.5 to 19 cm. If you like it loose, go a little longer. Always check the length on the product page.

Can I get a bracelet resized or customised?

We do not offer customisation, so choose the size carefully before ordering. Kadas with an open end can give you a little room to adjust gently, but we do not recommend forcing them.

Is a gold plated bracelet waterproof?

No. Please remove it before bathing, swimming and workouts, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing it.

Does Soni Fashion guarantee the colour of the bracelet?

We do not guarantee colour or shine on any range, because it depends on sweat, perfume, water and how often you wear it. The lifetime exchange offer applies only to 1 Gram Gold Plated jewellery: 15% of your original invoice value can be adjusted on a new purchase, not as cash. Other ranges do not carry a warranty or exchange.

What if I receive the wrong or a damaged bracelet?

Returns are accepted only for a wrong or damaged item, within 7 days, with an unboxing video. We do not accept returns for change of mind or size, which is why measuring first helps. Dispatch takes 1 to 2 business days and delivery is usually 3 to 7 days.
